EAST RUTHERFORD N.J., Aug. 16 -- The buzz began during pregame warmups at Giants Stadium and intensified as the moment drew closer for Brett Favre and the New York Jets. The quarterback, one of the game's all-time greats, soon would make his preseason debut against the Washington Redskins after arriving in a trade from the Green Bay Packers, and the Redskins had their own reasons to be excited.

Phil Sheridan: A golden opportunity to watch history unfold, one lap at a time

BEIJING - The best thing about watching Michael Phelps all week was that you knew from the first jump off the block until the last touch of a wall that you were seeing history.

Every time he raced, he won. Every time he won, he set a world record. You couldn't watch without mentally fast-forwarding 20 years to a day you could tell your grandkids that you ...

RUSH: According to Obama, additionally, as he said recently last week, maybe the week before -- and certainly in weeks prior -- he said something in addition to what I'm going to mention here. He said, ladies and gentlemen, that we are 3% of the world's population but that we use 25% of the world's resources. Now, I first heard this articulated by the certifiable nutcase Paul Ehrlich in his book, The Population Bomb, back in the seventies, I think it was. ...

... but as I heard today on the radio, he is NOT going to be the starter Quarter Back. He's the back up. What does he expect the Packers to do? He RETIRED! C'mon Brett... if you want to play that bad, find another team. The Packers moved on when you retired. It's too late for you to think you can just change your mind and magically expect the Pack to bow to your indecision.

I can't find an article on this yet, but I'm sure there will be. Nothing really about it on the Packer website yet ...

Hail to two Redskins

There are so many favorite Redskins from the original Joe Gibbs days but none are more famous, more respected and loved than James Arthur "Art" Monk and Darrell Green as both players and as men. With careers that spanned 22 years overlapping for 13 years, these two men were the heart and soul of the offense and defense for a Redskins team that was one of the most successful franchises in NFL history ...

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tony Stewart has spent his entire career emulating A.J. Foyt, his childhood hero who dazzled the young racer with a tough-guy bravado and swashbuckling style.
