House #4... and I like where this one sits. I've been through there and it's a quite, off the beaten path spot but still near stuff...

And house #5, which I think may have been flooded this year as Wisconsin had record rain, and this one is near the Wisconsin River. I bet it could be had for pennies on the dollar...
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
I like the first one the best. Seems to be the cheapest as well, especially for the size you get. Depends on how much house you want to clean though.

Yeah, the freakin' place is a mansion. I mean 4,000 square feet!
I just wonder two things... how much are the taxes, and how much will it cost to heat that fucker in the winter? It gets COLD in Wisconsin in the winter, and one thing I refuse to do is have a cold damn house.
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
And you notice all the properties have at least an acre of land. I want elbow room. If I can't see my neighbor, all the better.

If it gets too much, just heat parts of the house. :D

I thought about that.
There's a ton more than what I've post here though... LOTS more. I'll post some other ones later...

I like number three the best. I prefer small and cozy.

Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
I'm leaning towards #1, but, I'd have to look at it first. If the whole 1.7 acres is on the hill, forget it. There has to be some level land with it.
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
Big house number 1 is gone. I knew it was too good to last. But, this place here has been on the market for quite awhile, and I kind of like it. It's got just the right amount of land and privacy, yet close to things that I'm looking for....
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
Wow house #1 was beautiful. That would go for 7 or 8 times that in most Carolina mountain locations.
Out the remaining #2 is my choice, although I don’t like all that lawn to cut. I would “round up” in the fall, toss down some annual rye in the spring and let the weeds and trees take over. I’d like to see the other elevation though.
#5 is 2nd. Lots of woods, and lots of garage room to keep toys. But I hate the contemporary crank windows and garage doors facing the street.
Here’s what I don’t like about the others:
3 dirt driveway and front elevation – poor curb appeal
4. block chimney and flat roof addition says “Mickey mouse renovated here”
#6 Low slope roof, mismatched roof slopes- vertical siding, 60’s pawn shop windows.

Well, those are well thought out reasons for your choices pard. I like number 2 too, but I won't buy a house in Wisconsin that doesn't have a basement. Too many damn tornadoes up there. I want a place to hide.
I like number 6. It has the privacy, the land with some woods that's level, and the garage and shop. The big pawn shop windows, , are in the garage, and I'd more than likely close those in or put in one smaller one that's a thermopane. There's little I can't change on a house. I'd also pave the driveway. The price is also right.
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
I like the first, it's a very big house, and the inside is very good.
So the first, as we say "the first is the first, the second is nothing"

Yeah... I'd probably have bought that had the time been right, but, hence, the house is gone.

For you its probably perfect, but I consider resale value. Aside from the obvious "location, location, location" factor are curb appeal, kitchens, and bathroom. Kitchens are baths can be renovated (for a price) but curb appeal is a lot more difficult to change, since it involves major architectural features, such a rooflines, symmetry, relocating garage doors around the side, etc.
Of course, if you can make changes cheaply, it offers tremendous opportunity to make mony.

Well that one doesn't really have "curb appeal," because it's out in the country, and it's on a small dead end road. No one would ever see it unless they for some reason came into that road. To me that's a huge plus. "Seclusion." And resale, yeah, well, I'll probably live out the rest of my life there, so who cares...
With an acre and a half, I could get a real wild hair up my ass and build a whole new house and tear that one down. Anything is possible. Yeah the location, location, location on that one is perfect. Hidden, wooded, on a small dead end road, and sitting on an acre and half. Here's an ad for it on another website with a few more pictures of it....
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
Here's an ariel view of where it is... I'm really liking this place...
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
Based on your criteria its probably perfect for you. You certaintly can't beat the price. Lot of room to keep and build toys, and small enough to keep clean easy. The kitchen seems decent as well. The nearby train looks like a good place to ride a dirt bike on. Off highway means that you are unlikey to get screwed by a road widening. Plenty of hunting opportunities with those fileds and nearby natural and plantation woods.
The first ting you need to do though is check the insulation. That low slope roof may make that difficult to do. Also check your well to make sure the water's good.

And to top it off, the Wisconsin River, which is a huge river, is only a few hundred yards away south of the RR tracks and that back road. There is every kind of critter known running through those woods. I'd put out a couple mineral and salt block licks for the deer. The house does look decent inside. It would have to pass a VA home inspection in order for me to borrow on it anyway. And the water table is so high around there, you only have to go down about twenty feet to find to nice, cold, great tasting water. I think the well would have to be perk tested in order for it to be sold, as well as the septic to be fresh pumped out. It's got a nice fire place...
I called the realtor about the place. I'm going to see what's up with it.
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
And here's house #7. Another one I've had my eye on for quite awhile. I think it's been for sale for almost a year. But the deal is back in Wisconsin, the average amount of time it's taking to sell a house is a year and a half... average, and I imagine it's these ones out in the country that are taking longer to sell, because the trend is people are moving back closer to town. But, this one has a nice heated garage, and big storage shed, and it's on two acres. Not bad. I don't think I'd offer over $100K for it though...
Re: Help Me Pick Out My New House...
I like 7 better- curb appeal, classic style. No pawn shop windows.
Rule #1 when moving into a new house- pump the septic tank.

Tiny house though... TINY, tiny, tiny, tiny. No fire place. I'd HAVE to build on. Hell man, 900 square feet is HARDLY any bigger than this stupid apartment I'm in. It doesn't have any trees around it for privacy either. I think I still like number 6 best.
