Washington- The Christian Soldier
Head-Quarters, Middle Brook, June 28, 1777.“All chaplains are to perform divine service tomorrow, and on every succeeding Sunday…. The commander in chief expects an exact compliance with this order, and that it be observed in future as an invariable rule of practice—and every neglect will be considered not only a breach of orders, but a disregard to decency, virtue and religion.”
Head Quarters, V. Forge, Saturday, May 2, 1778.“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.”
Washington was also the first General in history to require the military to have chaplains assigned to divisions, and to pay for their salaries, a tradition still practiced.

But liberals will tell you America was not founded by Christian men, or on Christian values.
